Jump Rope for Heart

jump-rope-photo.jpgOn Friday the 10th of August, we had Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off. The whole school went and asked people for donations. We raised over $4000! The money we raised went to the Heart Foundation for research to help people with heart disease.

On the Jump Off day, the school went out on the basketball court and jumped our little hearts out! We all had a great day, and we got our hearts moving for the Heart Foundation!

marketplace2.JPGMarketplace is a pretend maths game in school where grade 5/6’s start a business to make pretend money.

Students must draw a house of their own and place furniture in their house so they must go around to shops buying furniture, cars, phones and more with the money they earn from their business. There are $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 dollar bills.More Marketplace

Jacob is back!

Posted on October 31st, 2007 in * General stuff by Mrs C

On the first day we missed our plane! Luckily, we caught the next one and arrived in Cairns the next day. After a rest on the first day, we went to Kuranda on the train and we took the sky rail back. http://www.cairnsattractions.com/a_skyrail.html

Some of the other highlights of the trip were:

  • parasailing over the ocean from the back of a boat
  • jetskiing
  • trip to Cape Tribulation on a weird bus – like a four wheel drive but a bus
  • we didn’t miss our plane back!

I sent a postcard back to my grade but I beat it back by one whole day! Here it is:

I loved the trip and want to go again next week. But I don’t think Mum will let me.

#1.Why did the boy take his own toilet paper to the party?

A. Because he was a party pooper.

#2. What will Bob the Builder be called when he retires?

A. Bob

#3.Doctor, doctor, everyone thinks I’m a liar.

A. Well that’s hard to believe.

#4.Waiter, this soup tastes funny.

A. Why aren’t you laughing then?

#5.What do you call a detective skeleton?

A. Sherlock Bones.

LOTE – Japanese

Posted on October 23rd, 2007 in * Japanese, Cointha by Mrs C

sumo_1888.jpgIn L.O.T.E [Language Other Than English] which is Japanese, we have been preparing a project lately which we performed alone, in pairs, or in threes. We chose a Japanese topic such as food, culture, clothes, traditions etc. Then we researched the topic, put it in our own words and presented our projects to the class. Some students made posters or short books. Others made speeches and poems or other ways in which they presented them.

The audience learnt a lot from the presentations and had fun watching them. These are some things we learned:

1. The Japanese wore clothes depending on the season they were currently in. In summer they wore orange, red, yellow and other earthy colours with light fabric like cotton. In winter it was heavy materials that were blue sorts of colours.

2. There was a special dance/routine that Japanese sumo wrestlers performed before the fight. It was complicated, quite long and had lots of stomping and heavy movements.

There was heaps more information that we learned and it was a very fun, educational session of Japanese where we learned language, culture and traditions.

56c-016.jpgThis is Matt, just  before he landed on his feet at gymnastics.

We are doing a three week gym course with Mr H at the Youth Club Hall. We have to walk there first – that’s our warm up!

Some of the activities we did in the first week were:

  • parallel bars
  • forward rolls
  • vaulting
  • balance beam
  • floor exercise
  • trying not to land on our heads
  • commando course
  • forward flips on the springboard
  • leapfrog

We’ll add another post with this week’s activities later.

good-and-evil.jpg How about a battle between good and evil? Which one do you see first?

me-and-you.jpgThen we have the two of us. Me and You. You and Me. Clever stuff, huh? Or just someone with too much time on their hands. Post your comments.

We think that the Collingwood Football Club team is the best in the league! The Cats may have won the flag this year, but Mrs C and a quarter of our class still barrack for the Mighty Magpies.
